CVD is a major complication of T2D (Rao Kondapally Seshasai et al., 2011; Sarwar et al., 2010), and raised IL‐6 levels in established T2D have been associated with CVD risk and mortality, independently of other inflammatory markers such as fibrinogen or CRP (Lowe et al., 2014). Here, CRP is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
