TLR2 and TLR4 have been widely studied and have both been shown to play a role in the pathogenesis of lipid disorders like atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (Curtiss and Tobias, 2009), insulin resistance (Devaraj et al., 2008; Wong and Wen, 2008; Kim et al., 2010; Dong et al., 2012), and obesity (Kim et al., 2007; Ghanim et al., 2017). The gene discussed is TLR4; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
