Together, these results indicated that the IL-4/signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (Stat6) pathway was important for intestinal mucus production during infection, and finally we demonstrated a role of the IL-4/Stat6 pathway in mucosal healing, recovery of the mucus layer and removal of the pathogen from contact with the epithelium by stimulating versus inhibiting the pathway during in vivo infection. Here, IL4 is linked to infection.
