Leptin was shown to participate in human breast cancer progression and metastasis [77] and induces, via EGFR phosphorylation, clonogenicity, anchorage-independent growth, migration, Notch activation and survivin upregulation in human breast cancer cells [78], illustrating that this LR-EGFR cross talk also has possible biological implications in the context of EGFR signalling. This evidence concerns the gene BIRC5 and breast carcinoma.
