G6PD and G6PD deficiency: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is an X-linked enzymopathy, with an estimated mean prevalence of 8% across areas in which malaria is endemic.14 Both prima-quine and tafenoquine cause hemolysis in persons with G6PD deficiency, and G6PD testing is recommended before treatment with these agents.15-17
