TP53 and atherosclerosis: Using luciferase assay, reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and western blot analyses, miR-31a-5p has been demonstrated to inhibit the activity of TP53 to decrease the expression of p53, a tumor suppressor protein that is involved in the development of restenosis and atherosclerosis, vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) growth and cell death.
