We also found that upregulation of P53 by piR-36,712 substantially reduced SLUG but increased E-CADHERIN level (Fig. 6a), which is consistent with previous reports suggesting that P53 may suppress cancer invasion by inducing MDM2-mediated degradation of SLUG, a transcription repressor that regulates expression of E-CADHERIN [38, 39].
