As discussed earlier, Pinot de Moira and colleagues’ study in a Ugandan village found that hookworm infection abrogated the predicted association between Dermatophagoides‐specific IgE and basophil histamine release.22 We postulated that the rural setting might interfere with the link between atopic sensitization (asIgE, SPT) and clinical outcomes (reported wheeze and rhinitis) through high helminth exposure. This evidence concerns the gene IGHE and ancylostomiasis.
