It is now becoming clear that inflammation is a critical component in tumor initiation and progression.27 Oxidative stress, commonly seen in the tumor microenvironment, can activate a series of transcription factors, which lead to expression of pro‐inflammatory molecules, therefore promoting transformation of normal cells to tumor cells, tumor cell survival, proliferation, and invasion.28 As an essential part of the cellular defense system, GGT plays a pivotal role in maintaining sufficient level of GSH, the latter of which protects the cells from oxidative damage. This evidence concerns the gene GGT1 and neoplasm.
