STAT3 and ischemia: An increase in the phosphorylation of mitochondrial STAT3 at Ser727 increases the enzymatic activities of MRCCs I and II, leading to the suppression of ROS production, the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pores, and the release of cytochrome c during ischemia (Meier & Larner, 2014; Szczepanek, Lesnefsky, & Larner, 2012; Yang & Rincon, 2016).
