In mice, loss of AJ proteins in the heart – N-cadherin (CDH2), β-catenin, αE-catenin or αT-catenin (CTNNA3) – causes dilated cardiomyopathy (Kostetskii et al., 2005; Li et al., 2012b, 2005; Sheikh et al., 2006). The gene discussed is CDH2; the disease is dilated cardiomyopathy.
