The relatively low anemia prevalence at 18 mo of age observed in our trial (42.9%) therefore conflicts with the GDHS 2014 report, perhaps because of regional and/or subregional variations in the distribution of anemia prevalence in Ghana, or methodological differences such as collection of capillary as opposed to venous blood, use of different models of the Hemocue photometer, or different protocols for handling samples for measuring Hb concentration. This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and anemia.
