A previous examination of 50 human tumor cell lines and 250 clinical specimens of human cancer, including 20 cancer subtypes, revealed that endosialin was expressed in tumor cells, perivascular cells, and stromal cells in sarcoma; further investigation with 11 types of carcinoma showed that endosialin expression originated from perivascular and stromal cells, and not from carcinoma cells [11]. The gene discussed is CD248; the disease is carcinoma.
