This is the first report where H2O2 and 3-NT levels were measured in epileptic children and where antioxidant (GR, GPx, SOD, and CAT) and oxidant markers (MDA, H2O2, 8-OHdG, and 3-NT) were measured in a longitudinal study, showing a differential redox profile with the presence and absence of brain findings on imaging studies, between the type and etiology of epilepsy in untreated epileptic children and between the effectiveness of crisis control by VPA during the first 6 months of monotherapy. The gene discussed is CAT; the disease is epilepsy.
