SELENOS and epilepsy: In a recent work, microarray technology was used to show that VPA is a neuroprotector since it has antioxidant properties during the first 6 months of treatment, modulating oxidative stress, glutathione metabolism, selenium metabolism, and selenoprotein pathways, including the gene expression of some respiratory chain proteins [9], suggesting that mitochondria may be a direct or indirect therapeutic target of VPA when used during the management of pediatric epilepsy.
