NFKB1 and infection: As demonstrated by the research highlighted in this review, this method could help to resolve otherwise hidden bi- or multiphasic responses to intracellular pathogens (20), and perhaps most interestingly, link the different NF-κB responses of individual cells to specific transcriptional responses using fluorescent reporters (18, 22) or downstream single cell transcriptomics (12) and different infection outcomes (e.g., intracellular replication, non-lytic exocytosis, host cell death, killing of the pathogen etc.).
