A growing line of evidence indicates the physical and functional couplings of TRPC3 and NCX1 proteins (Doleschal et al., 2015; Harper and Sage, 2016), Since TNF-α can enhance both TRPC3-encoded SOC/ROC (Zhang et al., 2005) and NCX1 proteins in the present study, we speculate that they may be activated in concert to participate in the pathological process of asthma, similar to the mechanisms of the involvement of NCX1 proteins in the development of systemic and pulmonary arterial hypertension (Zhang et al., 2007). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is asthma.
