The Bcl-2 protein family is composed of pro-apoptotic (Bax, Bad) and anti-apoptotic (Bcl-2, Bcl-xl) members, which are major regulators of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway (Gross, 2016), and are involved in the occurrence and development of stroke (Qi et al., 2015).
