VIPER and its predecessor MARINa (Master Regulator Inference algorithm) [38] have been instrumental in inferring MR proteins representing key functional determinants of tumor-related phenotypes in many cancer types, from glioblastoma [28, 29, 39], neuroblastoma [38], lymphoma [40, 41], and leukemia [42] to prostate [43–45] and breast adenocarcinoma [46–48], among others.
