When the hepatic expression of the transcription factor TFEB was increased by administration of torin-1, representing an effective inducer of autophagy, or by administration of an adenoviral vector expressing TFEB, mice showed decreased steatosis and liver injury induced by ethanol, while the knock down of TFEB using an adenovirus small hairpin RNA (shRNA) approach resulted in more severe liver disease [30]. This evidence concerns the gene TFEB and steatosis.
