Although few data have been reported regarding the relationship between angiogenesis and MMPs in the pathogenesis of COPD, the levels of MMP-9 and VEGF in sputum were significantly higher in asthma patients compared to non-asthma patients, and the levels of MMP-9 were significantly correlated with the levels of VEGF.
