IL6 and cancer: DNA‐damage response activates a secretory program that comprises a diverse spectrum of proteases, growth factors and, cytokines that have been shown to contribute to wound healing and altered immune responses.40, 41 Interleukin‐6 (IL‐6), at high concentrations, is found to protect cancer cells from therapy‐induced DNA damage, oxidative stress and apoptosis by facilitating the repair and induction of antioxidant response.42 In our study, IL6 is up‐regulated and screened as a hub gene in androgen‐independent, MTX‐resistant xenografts.
