Four weeks post-infection, a real-time PCR analysis of inflammatory gene expression revealed that purified macrophages from infected WT mice exhibited enhanced IL-10, Arg-1, MCP-1, RELMa, and IL-6 but reduced TNF-α, IL-12, and iNOS mRNA levels, which exhibited an M2 dominant- polarized phenotype (Fig 5B).
