INS and Hypoglycemia: Our results for SUs are consistent with previous observational studies that have examined the association between hypoglycemia and achieved on-therapy HbA1c (rather than HbA1c response).22,23 In the ACCORD trial, participants with the greatest HbA1c response at 4 months had a reduced rather than increased risk of hypoglycemia, although this can be explained by the fact that, in ACCORD, the participants with least initial response were more likely to be on insulin, the therapy with by far the strongest association with hypoglycemia.24
