Procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), Interleukin 8 (IL-8), Interleukin 18 (IL-18), Human neutrophil gelatinase (NGAL) and Adrenomedullin (ADM) have been widely used, but even these have limited capacity to distinguish sepsis from other inflammatory conditions, or to predict clinical outcomes.
