MTHFR is a regulatory enzyme of the homocysteine metabolism, and the most common MTHFR C677T polymorphisms has been reported to be a strong predictor of hyperhomocysteinaemia; the study suggested that a causal relationship might be accounted for by a lower enzyme activity in the subjects possessing the MTHFR TT genotype.[16,17] These observations have raised the possibility of a correlation between MTHFR C677T polymorphisms and the risk of ischemic stroke. Here, MTHFR is linked to ischemic stroke.
