TNF and infection: • The objective of this large database study in Italy was to quantify the risk of infections including serious infections in patients prescribed TNF alpha inhibitors compared with non-biological therapies including methotrexate and cyclosporine • Overall 17,739 patients were included and 23,357.5 person-years of follow-up • The authors concluded that in current clinical practice, treatment with TNF alpha inhibitors was not associated with a higher risk of serious infections than treatment with non-biologic therapies such as methotrexate and cyclosporine
