HDGFL2 and malaria: The 27.55% false negative results observed might be partly due to deletion or mutation of HRP2 gene in the malaria parasite, which is the most common target for MRDT.27,28 It has been reported to exhibit a high level of polymorphism.29,30 This is an important factor that may affect the performance of MRDT based on antigen detection.31,32 In addition, false negative results have been associated with blood samples taken beyond the period of malaria fever paroxysms.33P.
