GABARAPL1 and neoplasm: We have previously demonstrated that another autophagy gene, GABARAPL1, presents anti-tumor effects but we also recently described that the expression of a G116A mutant of GABARAPL1, which cannot be conjugated onto autophagosomes and therefore to participate in autophagosome elongation and maturation, was still able to decrease tumor growth in vivo [20], suggesting that the anti-tumor properties of GABARAPL1 may not only be linked to its role in autophagy.
