Given that ASIC1a activation triggers the intracellular accumulation of Na+ and Ca2+ involved in neurodegenerative and inflammatory processes typical of MS, an overexpression of ASIC2 in MS brain could facilitate the heteromultimerization of ASIC2 subunits with ASIC1a; thus, resulting in an increase of channel expression at the cell surface and consequently of acid‐evoked current. This evidence concerns the gene ASIC2 and myeloid sarcoma.
