[180] investigated the association between dietary micronutrients (heme iron, nonheme iron, zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), β-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E) with inflammatory markers (CRP, IL-6, total homocysteine (tHcy), fibrinogen, coronary artery calcium, and common and internal carotid artery-IMT) and subclinical atherosclerosis in 5181 participants free of diabetes and CVD from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (aged 45 y–84 y).
