To initiate HCC metastasis from primary tumors, various methyltransferases and demethylases methylate histone H3 lysine (K) 4 and K36, which causes conformational changes affecting the balance and distribution of euchromatin and heterochromatin, leading to the upregulation of mesenchymal–epithelial transition (MET)-related genes. This evidence concerns the gene MBD2 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
