Nevertheless, at 28 days post-stroke, we found co-localized BrdU/RECA cells (Figure 2K) as well as BrdU/NeuN cells (Figure 2L) in the region of soft tissue beyond the inhibitory glial scar, that we dubbed “islet of regeneration” because of presence of numerous blood vessels and endothelial cells (10).
