Taking account that HO-1 is downstream of Nrf2 and its induction in the spinal cord exerts potent antinociceptive effects during chronic pain (Liu et al., 2016), it is suitable to propose that the antinociceptive effects induced by SFN during persistent neuropathic pain were principally associated with the activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway. Here, HMOX1 is linked to neuropathic pain.
