MAPT and Alzheimer disease: With a focus on synaptic and neuronal loss in AD, we have developed a therapeutic strategy that has shown a neurorestorative potential, i.e., to restore lost synapses in AD brains in pre-clinical studies [10], as well as the concomitant potential to prevent apoptosis [10–12], reduce amyloid-β (Aβ) oligomers, lower hyperphosphorylated tau [10–12], and reduce oxidative stress [13].
