In accordance with this finding and the previously discussed genomic similarities and sequence conservation between the 2 species, we found mouse-human-conserved chromatin looping from the Myc promoter to the region orthologous to the human breast cancer-associated 8q24 region, suggesting that this gene desert region in both human and mouse contains regulatory elements affecting Myc expression in the mammary gland. The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is breast carcinoma.
