The two pathological hallmarks of AD are the presence of neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) made of aggregates of the hyperphosphorylated tau protein and of amyloid plaques composed of Aβ peptides, primarily Aβ1-40 and Aβ1-42 (Ballatore et al., 2007; Serrano-Pozo et al., 2011; Doig et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
