Gao et al. [100] reported that the administration of TSG (90 and 180 mg/kg/day) to hyperlipidemic rats for 1 week significantly reduces atherosclerosis index (AI, LDL-C/HDL-C) and serum total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels (P < 0.01) but increases the mRNA expression of LDL receptor (LDLR) (P < 0.05) in liver cells. This evidence concerns the gene LDLR and atherosclerosis.
