Stim1 is an ER/SR luminal Ca2+ sensor that regulates store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) and other Ca2+ sensing mechanisms in a variety of cell types (Soboloff et al., 2012; Bénard et al., 2016), including cardiomyocytes, where it plays a role in preventing heart failure following induced pressure overload or aging (Bénard et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene STIM1 and heart failure.
