Our results on CHOP induction in response to heme correlates well with studies reporting activation of PERK/eIF2α/ATF4/CHOP pathway in a response to oxidized LDL, which, like heme, is considered a pathological factor of atherosclerosis (Hong et al., 2014; Tao et al., 2016). The gene discussed is DDIT3; the disease is atherosclerosis.
