As part of the latter study, a small molecule compound library was screened in human A172 glioblastoma cells transiently transfected with ApoE4 (A172-E4) using SirT1 mRNA levels and enzyme activity as readouts, and several hits that increased the transcription of SirT1 were identified including A03, a known selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI) called alaproclate14. The gene discussed is SIRT1; the disease is glioblastoma.
