Coyne DW, et al. reported that paricalcitol (1 mcg/day) and 1,25(OH)2D (calcitriol; 0.25 mcg/day) were similarly effective in lowering intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) and alkaline phosphatase in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism in stages 3–4 CKD, with minimal elevations in serum calcium and phosphorus [30]. Here, PTH is linked to chronic kidney disease.
