Functional and motif enrichment analysis on the top 500 correlated genes, further referred to as the ESC mRNA signature, pointed at a central role of transcription factor FOXM1 and several other members of the DREAM complex, including MYBL2, E2F and LIN9 in controlling the stem cell characteristics of aggressive neuroblastoma cells, by keeping cell cycle and DNA repair mechanisms in check. The gene discussed is KCNIP3; the disease is neuroblastoma.
