Massberg et al. indicated that platelets recruited bone marrow derived progenitor cells to a vascular injury site via secretion of SDF-1 and the P-selectin/PSGL-axis (173) SDF-1 was also shown to enhance the recruitment of smooth muscle cell progenitor cells (174) and after myocardial infarction, to augment migration of cardiac stem cells to the myocardium (175, 176). This evidence concerns the gene CXCL12 and myocardial infarction.
