Low levels of Cx43 expression in either the membrane or the cytoplasm were significantly associated with known markers of poor prognosis: tumor size (membrane p = 0.02; cytoplasm p = 0.001), higher grade (p < 0.0001), high nuclear and cellular pleomorphism (membrane p = 0.002; cytoplasm p < 0.0001), high mitosis frequency (p < 0.0001), and poor NPI (p < 0.0001) (Table 1).
