Genetic variation in RUNX3 has been demonstrated as a risk factor for the development of ulcerative colitis [19] and Garritty-Park et al. [20] demonstrated that hypermethylation of RUNX3, and MINT1 could be detected in the non-neoplastic mucosa from patients with colitis associated neoplasia. The gene discussed is RUNX3; the disease is ulcerative colitis.
