DNMT3B and cancer: While Dnmt3b is generally not expressed in somatic tissues (Figure 1—figure supplement 1A), our analysis showed that nearly every tumor type contained samples where DNMT3B is upregulated (Figure 1A; Figure 1—figure supplement 1B) (Duymich et al., 2016). However, within each cancer type, only a fraction of tumors overexpress DNMT3B, while many more acquire CGI hypermethylation (Figure 1B).
