The 19q13.3 genomic region harboring the APOE (apolipoprotein E) and TOMM40 (translocase of outer mitochondrial membrane 40 homolog) genes represents an opportunity for such an analysis as it harbors pleiotropic variants conferring the strongest, well‐documented risk of AD and robust associations with BMI (body mass index, kg/m2) (Guo et al., 2013; Roses et al., 2010). This evidence concerns the gene APOE and Alzheimer disease.
