d-ROMs are an oxidative stress biomarker and used as a proxy for total level of blood hydroperoxides,[13,19,33] with WBC count known to reflect systemic inflammation and widely used clinically as an index of postoperative recovery,[29] and CRP level known to correlate well with the magnitude of surgical stress.[28] Thus, normalization of those factors following esophageal cancer surgery indicates resolution of systemic inflammatory status that appears in response to the surgical procedure, though that response is dependent on oxidative stress status in individual patients. Here, CRP is linked to esophageal cancer.
