In in vitro studies, the direct exposure to high concentration of GCs was resulted in delayed apoptosis and high survival rate by inhibition of caspase 3 activity in human and rat hepatocytes (Bailly-Maitre et al. 2001) and the inhibition of apoptosis by up-regulated caspase inhibitor, cIAP2, in ovarian cancer (Runnebaum and Brüning 2005). The gene discussed is BIRC3; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
