Taking advantage of emerging genomics databases, such as GTEx (Genotype-Tissue Expression), ENCODE (Encyclopedia of DNA element), and dbGaP (the database of Genotype and Phenotypes), we had identified two regulatory LD bins, represented by a lead candidate variant for CHRNA3 and CHRNA5 (tagged by rs1948 and rs880395, respectively, the latter in high LD with rs588765 in Europeans), that modulate influence on nicotine dependence [11]. The gene discussed is CHRNA3; the disease is nicotine dependence.
